The National Volunteer Center Team of the English Opens Doors Program is excited to announce that applications for the 2018 year will be opening soon!
We have received countless emails expressing interest in our Program and indicating an eagerness to apply. Don’t fret! We are currently preparing to open applications for 2018 volunteer services by no later than mid-September. While the National Volunteer Center was founded in 2004, 2018 will be our fourth year of working specifically to help strengthen Chilean public schools as a part of Chile’s Educational Reform (Fortalecimiento de Educación Pública, or FEP). The FEP reform was initiated in 2015 by the current President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, and is meant to provide Chilean public school students with opportunities and resources previously not available to them. The English Opens Doors Program (EODP) works through the National Volunteer Center to recruit, train, and support motivated native or near-native English speaking volunteers who work in public schools across Chile!
Over the past three years, volunteers working during the implementation of the FEP project have reached more than 100,000 students across Chile. Join us during the Fall Semester (March-July), Spring Semester (August-November), or both (March-November) academic semesters and help us reach our goal of providing thousands of public school students with the opportunity to practice and develop their English skills with our international volunteers! Our volunteers implement fun and engaging activities in the classroom, and during extra-curricular activities, focusing on stimulating students’ speaking and listening skills. Volunteers can choose to live with a Chilean host family (room and board included!) in a their placement community, or independently.
Volunteers who are accepted to participate in the fall semester, or in the two semester-long services, will get to work in one of the EODP’s most highly rated initiatives, English Winter Camps! The English Winter Camps are an activity implemented by the EODP which provides students with a fun, English immersion camp experience during their winter vacation. These camps are a particularly special experience for volunteers and students alike. Year after year, dedicated students choose to spend their vacation time honing their English skills with our international staff members. As we mentioned before, we will be launching the volunteer service application process in September and it will run through March of 2018. While you will have plenty of time to apply for the volunteer service of your choosing, we recommend applying as soon as you are able to as we do conduct a rolling application process. To stay connected and to receive the most up-to-date information regarding the application process, program dates, and more, we recommend signing up for our newsletter, as well as checking our website homepage and social media accounts regularly. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to help us in our mission to provide Chile and public schools students and teachers with the opportunity to work with native and near-native English speakers! We look forward to hearing from you in the near future and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to write us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
